Alternative Portraits
- Experimental and Alternative -

APRIL 2023

Working with film and experimenting with alternative processes and techniques, I experience uncertainty routinely. Even considering the planning that goes into every image, the final results can never be known ahead of time. By choosing to exchange as many of the chemicals that are involved in the process for more environmentally focused materials, such as beer, wine and coffee, I begin to remove the known aspects of my medium. By deciding to print three dimensional portraits I have brought the image out of the studio and directly into the viewer's space. In pairing the three dimensional works with their two dimensional counterparts, I am putting a focus on not only the subject, but the medium and process as well.

In this exhibition, I explore the boundaries of the photographic medium and create a space where viewer and artist alike can find themselves sharing in the sense of discovery and challenging their own perceptions. I often choose to include the edges of the work to provide a glimpse of the process, allowing the viewer to share in the emotions that I experienced as I created the work. This body of work focuses on human emotion as it is conveyed by the subject, and embodies the ideals of experimentation, creativity and passion.
